There’s no denying that Atmos is becoming much more mainstream. More and more media is becoming available to stream in Atmos. Our recent post on the best Atmos-enabled Netflix movies to watch goes to show that this immersive audio is available to the majority of people, as long as you’ve got the equipment to play it…
Dolby Atmos enabled headphones and soundbars are becoming more common, but the 4” Atmos Enabled Elevation Speakers by Sony provides people with a slightly different option.
Sony's SS-CSE Dolby Atmos Enabled Speakers can be added to your existing speaker setup and mounted with incredible simplicity. This means that you can add immersive audio to your existing speaker setup easily, and affordably. These speakers are one of the best-priced methods to create a full Atmos speaker system, rather than using a soundbar or headphones.
In order to create a fully immersive soundstage and support Dolby’s Atmos functionality, sound needs to have the ability to fire downward. This is achieved by these speakers without ceiling mounts, as the clever angular design fires the sound to the ceiling, bouncing it downward to create a 360-degree feeling.

To get the most out of your speakers, we recommend using room calibration. This is especially helpful with adjusting volumes and getting the most out of your speakers if you are “mixing and matching” by adding these upward-firing speakers to your existing system.

The Bottom Line
Sony's SS-CSE Dolby Atmos Enabled Speakers are a budget option, and this should be remembered by the true audiophiles.
While they lived up to our expectations when it came to the rumble and surround sound of watching a movie, the speakers struggled when we tested with some high fidelity music.
It depends on the speakers you pair these with. Some will add the bass rumble that these speakers lack on their own, others will leave you with tinny audio that is far from perfect.
In the majority of situations, if you want speakers for listening to music in Dolby Atmos and experiencing the full spectrum of audio frequencies in all their glory, you may need to spend more than the $200 that these speakers cost.
For ultra high end systems, it might be worth looking a level up from these. For those who are looking to give their home movie-watching a boost, without spending a fortune, these speakers can be a perfect accomplice.
