You know the old saying, “good things come in small packages.” Well, in the world of audio this is pretty much never true. If you want the best sound then you usually need to invest in a piece of kit that is big and bulky.
But top audio brands are trying to change that.
The tiny Atmos Sound Bar doesn’t look like it could possibly create a sound that fills a room. However, looks can be deceiving.
This LG Dolby Atmos Sound Bar consists of the LG Eclair QP5 3.1.2ch Dolby Atmos Compact Sound Bar and Subwoofer, and we’d urge you not to judge until you’ve heard it. The volume, at the very least, is impressive.
Design
The design of the system looks like a smart home device rather than a speaker that is designed to sit in front of your television. It’s compact and even slightly futuristic in its design.
The sound bar weighs under 4lbs and is tiny at 11.7" x 2.4" x 4.9" in size. Perfect for using in front of a small screen or even connecting to your computer.
As you can see, this is accompanied by a big, bulky sub, but this isn’t so much of a problem as you can hide this away.
The fact that the speaker itself is just 2.4” high means it can sit discreetly on a shelf or television stand.
Sound
We already mentioned the volume of the speaker being impressive, but it is worth mentioning that a huge amount of the power handling is from the Subwoofer.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing. It means that the low frequencies are handled by the sub and the soundbar itself handles the highs and mids.
The 3.1.2 uses a clever directional design which helps to widen the soundstage. The limitations of the smaller speakers are there to be heard when compared to a big immersive system or a 7.1 system, but it’s unfair to compare them in some ways. The LG is built for convenience and compactness, and what it achieves considering the size and price tag is impressive.
The TV Sound Mode Share means that if you have an AI processor in your television (some LG models offer this) the two can communicate better and produce better sound by analyzing different content sources.
Is The LG Dolby Atmos Sound Bar Worth It?
In a small apartment or home office, with limited space, this sound bar is a great option, as long as you can find space for the sub to give that bass rumble. Without the sub, the speakers are limited. With the sub, they provide a clever and compact directional system that opens up the stereo field more than the majority of sound bars, allowing you to enjoy Dolby Atmos.
While such a small speaker won’t give you a huge sound, and this is only a 3.1 system, the well-thought-out speaker direction does mean an immersive experience, at a price that isn’t going to make your eyes water.
