"Study: Boots…" is a flexible surround-sound electronic composition, produced using custom-coded software that makes each ‘performance’ a little different. It can be configured for any roughly circular speaker formation, though a 5.1 version has been recorded here. Essentially the piece is an exercise in making a lot out of a little: the bass drum and hi-hat that form the backbone of much electronic dance music are taken as basic materials which are extensively varied and transformed, reforming at times into irregular clouds of pulses, continuous streams of sound, and even sustained pitches and chords.
