Polytempo Music is an exploration of polytemporal musical structures for chamber orchestra, drawing influence from early American Minimalism and avant-garde experimentalism. The recording was originally developed as an interactive spatial VR app, where the twelve instrument channels are programmed to enact a choreography of through-composed spatial audio animation. Polytempo Music is a first-of-its kind endeavor to bring the complex and dense technique of polytempo composition into the hands of live musicians and the ears of listeners via a spatialized medium. This audio-only release offers a carefully mixed stereo rendition of this rich soundscape, as well as an object-based Dolby Atmos mix that can be circumnavigated using head-tracking headphones.
