Over the last decade Phillip Serna ​has emerged among the nation’s leading advocates of the viol – the viola da gamba. Co-founding Black Tulip & ViolMedium, he’s collaborated with distinguished historical-performance ensembles including the Bella Voce Sinfonia, the Callipygian Players, Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, the Newberry Consort, the Second City Musick, et al. John Jenkins (1592-1678) was a prolific composer of music for viols whose life spanned from William Byrd to Henry Purcell, a period of great upheaval in England both musically & politically. He was an accomplished performer and composer for the lyra viol and was a major exponent of the English s17th-eventeenth century viol fantasia. This recording was performed, recorded, mixed & mastered May 2021 by Phillip W. Serna at Dwarf Star Audio in Plainfield, IL.
