On March 12, German musician, photographer, and field recordist Matthias Frick (R&S, Ki Records, Project Mooncircle) released the second single from his incoming LP, Emergence. “Linked / Memory Loop” is a hefty one-two punch, showing a wide-ranging producer at his most omnivorous. With “Linked,” Frick casts a peak-time rave-up in amber, piling idiom upon idiom in an ode to the dancefloor: chopped-and-scattered breakbeats, vocal snippets garbled up just so, keyboards that alternate between driving and delirious. It’s not exactly 2 a.m. fare, but it wouldn’t sound out of place there, either. The single was mixed in Dolby Atmos by Jon Niess at Austin Signal Studios.
