Type: Digital Download
Over the last decade Phillip Serna has emerged among the nation’s leading advocates of the viol – the viola da gamba. Co-founding Black Tulip & ViolMedium, he’s collaborated with distinguished historical-performance ensembles including the Bella Voce Sinfonia, the Callipygian Players, Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, the Newberry Consort, the Second City Musick, et al. Rudolph Dolmetsch (1906-1942), second child of Early Music pioneer Arnold Dolmetsch, was an accomplished composer, keyboardist, and is regarded as the first modern viola da gamba virtuoso. His 1929 Caprice is widely considered the earliest 20th century work composed for the viola da gamba since the instrument disappeared from wide use at the close of the 18th century. These recordings were performed mixed & mastered February 2023 by Phillip W. Serna at Dwarf Star Audio, Plainfield, IL.
