Canadian jazz vocalist Adi Braun’s Night and Day: The Cole Porter Songbook, first released in September 2023 through Alma Records, is a sophisticated collection of jazz and cabaret standards–showcasing her exceptional vocal artistry and emotive storytelling. Featuring a mix of jazz standards and reimagined classics, Night and Day invites listeners into a world of elegant melodies and intimate interpretations.

The ensemble that Braun and producer Peter Cardinali assembled to record Night and Day features some of Canada’s finest musicians, including Don Breithaupt on piano, Pat Collins on bass, Mark Kelso on drums, and Justin Abedin on guitar. The group's interplay is seamless, providing a rich backdrop for Braun’s evocative vocals. 

Night and Day draws its title from the classic Cole Porter tune of the same name, which Braun reinterprets with understated elegance. This balance of restraint and passion defines the album, with Braun bringing fresh emotional clarity to standards like “Love For Sale” and “I've Got You Under My Skin.” While these songs are well-trodden territory in the jazz world, Braun’s interpretations feel personal and authentic, as though she’s telling her own story through the music.

In addition to the standard two-channel stereo version, engineer John ‘Beetle’ Bailey has also created a Dolby Atmos mix of Night and Day. Though the Atmos mix has been available on streaming services since 2023, we’re proud to now offer it as an exclusive hi-res digital download via IAA's online shop! The immersive download is presented in two formats: 48-khz/24-bit Dolby TrueHD/Atmos and 96-khz/24-bit 11.1 Auro-3D. 

All of Bailey’s immersive mixes released thus far (Monkey House, Cinque, Hilario Duran etc) have been remarkable and this one is no exception. Braun’s vocal is placed front and center, with the other musicians wrapping around the listener to stunning effect. Breithaupt’s piano in “Love for Sale” spills over from the front stage into the side surrounds, while horns blast from the rear and rear height speakers.

Night and Day is the ninth entry in a series of high-resolution digital immersive releases brought to you by Immersive Audio Album in partnership with Alma Records, an independent 'music first' Canadian label focused primarily on jazz and world music. Alma is committed to remixing much of their back catalog in immersive audio, with several key titles from artists such as Monkey House, Cinque, The Florian Hoefner Trio, Amabutho, and more already available both via streaming services as well as the IAA shop. 

Immersive Audio Album offers Dolby Atmos digital downloads in the lossless TrueHD format. While streaming services offer convenience and access to a vast library of music, they also severely compress the audio to save bandwidth. With TrueHD, the inner detail and sonic clarity is much better preserved for home listeners.
